Bloodcat Love is a Los Angeles-based indie band whose members are Myles Hendrik (vocals), Nicholas Oja, Joshua Mancuso, Marty Cornish and Justin Silva. I first heard them when they opened for Jet at the House of Blues in Anaheim in 2006. I immediately fell in love with Hendrik’s energy and the band’s gritty rock style. Most of their music sounds like the lovechild between Blues-based rock and British pop rock.
Only Dreamers Left (EP) came out earlier this year, and it is one of the best 6 tracks I have heard this year. Opening with the catchy tune of “Yeah, Yeah Sweet”, you are pulled into listening to more while getting your groove on. “Viva Modula” (second track) is by far my favorite. It was the song that got me during the Jet concert and it is the song that got me on the album. The bass intro is amazing and the song immediately gets me off my feet. It’s a great party track or a nice tune to set off a long drive in traffic. The rest of the album really has that L.A. scene grittiness. It’s raw, dirty and energetic.
I had the privilege of catching Bloodcat Love in July during their one-month residency at Detroit Bar. It was by far my favorite show of the summer. Of course they had amazing openers, including Io Echo and We Barbarians, but they ruled show as headliner. Hendrik has a strong stage presence and energy that gets the crowd going. The band compliments his energy and together they create an amazing musical aura. You just can’t resist moving to the music.
Bloodcat Love is currently working on a new EP, to be released in the near future. Keep a look out for this band because they have a wonderful energy. I am looking forward to their new material and to future shows.
