The project is called Elecweb. It is an installation piece made up of floral wire, string, hot glue, cold cathode lighting and a 550 watt powersupply. My first impression of it was a good one. I have to admit it was a plus to see the very cool lighting, especially since there was more than one cathode light to it. What really impressed me, apart from the lighting, was the hot glue. If I hadn't known that the string was a main part of holding it together, I would have thought that it was all solely hot glue fabrications and that in itself would have been enough to boggle my mind for a few days.
In complete darkness this piece looks absolutely beautiful. The lighting becomes infused through out the veins of the hot glue, illuminating the entire piece. At first, I have to admit, it is a bit hard to keep the eyes away from the lighting but after getting past the "Ooooh pretty light" phase you enter the "awe" part of it. The good thing about it is that the lights are located at different areas of the piece so the source of color and lighting isn't coming from one main area. It is also enjoyable to see the actual lighting rods embedded into the piece by being completely consumed by the hot glue; making them seemingly suspended in mid-air.
It is definitely an interesting piece that I would enjoy to see on a bigger scale, possibly taking up an entire wall as opposed to an entire room. Hopefully we'll be seeing more of this soon.
And lastly for your enjoyment, a few pictures I took myself of the installation. Not the most fabulous ones, but as I said before. I wish I had a better camera. Maybe that will motivate people to sponsor one for me. Hey, I can dream can't I?
Oh and of course, I couldn't help that the lighting was so nice that I had to do this picture...
